do dvds have macrovision on the disc, or is it in the player?

I think the answer is both. As I understand the way macrovision works,the macro is encoded in the interval bar between the video frames as stored on the DVD disk. But it is triggered by the DVD players firmware,that's why it's possible to switch macrovision off on some DVD players by changeing the firmware. Some players can do it thru so-called loophole menus and some by flashing the firmware. The Sima SCC works by generating a new interval bar so in theory it should eliminate macro on anything input to it.
