My liteon pretty much tears it up, I'd look into those, I've hit upto 10x or so with mine in a few situations lately. Plus they are pretty cheap if you can find a good deal.

Go with a Lite On. Mine rips up to 11x. Minimum is around 6x. Great drive and nicely priced.

Liteon is cheap and fast. Average 7-10x for a dvd5- I have seen 13x on many rips near the end. 5-9x avg for a dvd9- faster near the end of each layer.
This thing sounds like a jet taking off when starting a dvd5 rip.
5-7 minutes for a dvd5 and 8-15 minutes for a dvd9. Most average 5:30-dvd5, and 11:00 minutes for a dvd9.
There may be a better dvd drive available but I doubt you can get a faster one for the price. -
i have a pioneer 116 Dvd-ROM i can rip around 6 - 11 X speed depending on the DVD (5 or 9) for a Dual layer 21/2 Hr movie it takes me about 12-15 min to rip

Lite On combines three things
cheap - good - fast
also i like creativeThis is the last day of the rest of your life -
Ok from this I see that its gonna be a pioneer or more so a liteon.
The question is which of the following Liteon DVD-roms??
LTD-165 48xCD Int IDE OEM or LTD-166S-02VY 48xCD Int IDE Retail??
Thx
