  1. I'm going to open a can of worms with this, but here I go.

I am looking for a software player to play my SVCDs, CVDs and VCDs. I am looking towards buying the latest version of either WinDVD or PowerDVD. The disks will be encoded by me and will be interlaced..

Which is the best, PowerDVD or WinDVD?

why not use a free mpeg player? no need in spending money unless you want some fancy functions or something like that. i have powerDVD but only use that for actual dvd's. i play my vcd, svcd etc... with elecard player(free in the tools section).

  3. I have the Elecard player also but I do not think that it does a good job of deinterlacing video on the fly.

  4. i have experimented with both windvd and powerdvd... i have only used them to play dvds though, so i cant comment on their (s)vcd abilities... but i prefer powerdvd... i like the layout better and i had an easyer time settin up my 5.1 audio and it interfaced better with my digital media remote. the controlls are easy to figure out and it plays dvds very nice.
