  1. Hi

I've read some very helpful info on bitrate conversion, using Adobe Premiere 6.5 Mpeg Encoder or tmpgenc, multiplexing. I now want to make a DVD using DVD workshop. My question is, what setting do I use? Do I use the "(CBR) HIGH setting 60 mins" or do I use the "VBR High Quality" setting? Or do I manually adjust the bitrate?

This is urgent if anyone would be kind enough to help me here I'd be very grateful.

if you are refering to tmpgenc - i would pick either one and then in next window options change it to CQ 85 .. you can try CBR and VBR also -- just encode part of you vidoe and see how it looks ..
i use CBR 8000 for a lot of dvd's (to prevent tmpgenc bit rate spikes, at least reduce them) if its for clients and going to be copied and im in a hurry .. but my source files are very high quality to start with ..

  3. Thanks for replying but no, that's not what I mean. AFTER I've encoded using TMPGenc, AFTER I import into DVD workshop and create my menus and am ready to make the DVD, when using DVD workshop to "Make Disc", a setting must be chosen. There are various high and low bandwidth options, CBR and VBR. Which one should I use?

  5. BJ_M,

Why do you use a CBR 8000, so high? I though some stand alone players will bog down and freeze or not play proplerly if the bitrate is too high? Does this give you the smoothest possible image? Are your captures pure raw .avi files to start with (80GB)?

Well in DVD Workshop, during the "Make Disc" process, there is a checkbox that says "do not convert compliant files". That's why so many users of advanced encoders like DVD Workshop apparently. I just want to make sure that I'm not causing a conflict during that process by choosing the wrong option. There are about a half dozen threads recommending encoding followed by DVD workshop, and I wish one of them would see this post and tell me what final settings they use.

source is ussually d-beta or D5 or rendered frames.. non compressed SDI or Component transfer (or straight frames from raids)

yes on some players this bit rate causes problems --less so with apple media , even less so because i tell them to buy a pioneer 7400 dvd player which plays them always great (but doesnt play svcd's - not that it maters) .. 6000 is a more compatable bit rate ..
