change dimensions easily, and encoder settings?

I have 2 questions that I need help with.

1: Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to keep the current encoding settings, but change the dimensions of the video? I just burned some videos on a dvd as xvids to play in my philips dvp5140/30, but the player doesn't like the dimensions (768 x 576). But it has no trouble playing other videos (example dimensions: 640 x 464) I would love to be able to batch these videos to change the dimensions instead of reencoding them all.

2: I use vdub, and love it, but I've tried to join 2 videos that were different bitrates and couldn't (understandable), but I had to reencode both of them so I got them the same. Is there a feature of vdub (or any program) that will let me open a video and tell vdub to use the encoder settings of this video for every video I work on (until I close vdub).

P.S. I usually encode with divx6

1. If you resize you will have to re-encode.

2. In VirtualDub you can save your settings in 'File>Save processing settings', then just reload them from that file. I use that to encode SVCDs to Divx with VD Mod. Then I can deinterlace, resize from 480 x 480 to 640 X 480, change the audio to MP3 and process to Divx in one step. Then I load the second half of the SVCD and load the same settings file, then join the two finished parts with 'Direct stream copy'.

Thanks redwudz, I didn't know about saving settings, but what I really wanted to know was if I load a file, xvid for example, can vdub pluck out the codec settings used so I can use it on another file. If I have direct stream copy selected and try to save the settings will it use the settings that this one video uses, or will it just see direct stream copy?
Also is their a way in vdub to open a file and see what the existing settings that were used to encode that file are? I know I could use gspot, but would really like to just open a file, tell vdub (or a program that can do what I want), to save these settings that were used to create this current video, then open another video to encode and have it encode with those settings

You would manually have to adjust the settings, then save them as processing settings. You can see what VD reads from the file in 'File>File information'. But you will get easier to interpret info from Gspot.

If you use 'Direct stream copy' it won't need settings, it will just pass the file through, with any cuts or pastes you set. There are no settings to save there, unless it can save the cuts and pastes. But that wouldn't be much use with a different file. I've never tried 'Save processing settings' with 'Direct stream copy'.

Once I set the encoder configuration in Divx, it keeps those settings, even if I close VD, until I change them again. (Unless another program resets them. ) So those aren't really part of the processing settings. It just selects the codec to use, along with filters and audio settings, etc., AFAIK.

But I learn something new about VD all the time.

EDIT: I was wrong about the encoder settings. The processing settings do apparently include encoder settings. I just noticed this when I used them and I had Divx set for 1 pass quality with a TQ of 4. The 'Processing settings' file I was using changed it back. As mentioned, always learning.
