  1. i used nero to burn a vcd from a avi file. First, i decompressed the sound and then recompressed it with virtual dub because nero gave me an error (error encoding file). After recompressing the sound nero accepted the file, with no errors, tested and then burned the vcd. It stated that everything was ok, but it has no image at all when it is played with the DVD player.
Of course, the avi file was ok and I can play it with Media Player, Vplayer etc.
    The sound, though, is OK.
    Can someone tell me why?

  2. I can't tell you why but i can tell you that Nero isn't the best tool to encode AVI to VCD as it's primary purpose is burning. Hence all the problems with files Nero has encoded (you are not alone ). Use proper encoder like TMPGEnc to encode your AVI to VCD and then burn with Nero.

  3. thank you for your answer.
I tried, however, to convert the file to mpg format, with TMPGenc, and with avi2mpg. The first gave an error, saying "unsupported video format" or something and the second needs about 1 week to do the job (and I don't know if the result will be satisfying).
I will try now to install also divx 3 and 4, besides 5 pro, and NimoLite codec pack and see if it works.
If you have another idea about this last problem, please reply.

  4. Installing all those codecs should work for TMPGEnc, other thing that could help it is increasing DirectShow Multimedia File Reader filter's priority to about 4-5 (TMPGEnc->Option->Environmental Setting...->VFAPI plug-in) but this is after you install your codecs.
