    Every time I try to open an avi file for conversion, I get an error telling me the file can not be opened or unsupported when it worked on the same file the day before. Now it won't work on any. Someone help.

    You might have uninstalled or replaced some codecs that were used to play these AVIs. Install Nimo Codec Pack, if that doesn't work increase your DirectShow Multimedia File Reader priority to 4 in TMPGEnc->Option->Environmental Setting...->VFAPI plug-in.
