    Hi folks,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with my question...

Will a Hi8 recorded tape play in a non-Hi8 player?

I had some serious trouble finding anything out about 8mm equipment on the net. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dan Bruner

  2. Thats aloaded question, do you mean what you have recorded as HI-8mm play on another non-HI8mm machine, thats a yes or no question.
Some of sony's Home 8mm players, I have one that will play HI-8mm or 8mm and its just a 8mm deck, their sort of like Quasi-VHS. Sony put chips in some machines to allow HI-8 playback in their non HI-8 machines.
But if you mean can you use a HI-8mm blank tape in a 8mm, no problem it will work fine, I have even taken a 8mm tape punched a hole in the right place so it would record HI-8mm.
I do not know of any 8mm camcorder than will play a recorded HI-8mm tape correctly, it was just the home decks only.

    Nah...
It's like playing a s-vhs on a regular vhs player... nothing but static but you can copy from the camers to regular using the V/A out.
