  1. Regarding the low capture volume:

We don't recommend any type of regedit. If you have an
onboard sound card, this is likely the problem. Some onboard
sound cards have problems processing, and recording the audio we
pass through to them. If possible, re-test the issue with a
PCI sound card. If your sound card is onboard, try using the
    MIC-IN instead of the LINE-IN.

Has anyone tried this method or should I buy a seperate sound card?

I have noticed that both on-board sound systems I have used in the part were quiet, I guess they were never designed for audio capture ( go figure ). Both were VIA chipsets. VIA also steals some CPU time to process the audio so you might get problems capturing is your push it too hard.

Honestly this is why I always go back to SB hardware. I still have a working SB 16 ( 3/4 length ISA casr ) that kicks but for capturing, but due to recent computers not having ISA slots I've gone to a SB Live.

So, yes I have seen that problem myself, and yes a PCI sound card did help. If you are going to get a sound card you might as well get a decent one.

Do not use MIC in as line level can be much too high for mic in and could damage your card.

  3. Bought the SB live 5 and it's really helped. Thanks for the input.
