Hi,
OK, so the biggest question is which should I buy. Well, this is what I have. I have a laptop (pentium III 800) and I have a PCMCIA Firewire card and also USB.
Considering that, I looked that the DVD Writers list and found that none of the recorders that record DVD-R have those interfaces.
From what I have read so far in this forum, DVD-R(W) is the way to go...
So considering all that, what do you guys suggest?
BTW, I have philips 724 DVD player....
Thanks for any suggestions/comments....

Check what disk format your DVD player will accpet. That should cut the choice down. My Philips would only play the + format, so the choice was simple.

The new Sony DRU500A will be available in a firewire case in november.
It does both +/- .Stay away from USB,unless you have USB2.0 -
TOMMO, I have philips dvd724. The vcdhelp DVD players compatibility list says that is should handle both + and -. But the box says it can only handle +. But since I do not have a burner, I cannot test
So that is why I thought the Sony DRU500A will be a good deal because it does both.
Thanks Jeepers for the insight. I guess I will have to wait. Any specific date you know when it is going to be available or a website that gives that info?
Thanks. -
Have you read the DRU500a media thread? May not be a good deal if they only support 3 brands of discs ( the expensive ones ).

Yeah, but supertek's list shows more than that. Even HP will only "officially" support a short list, where in reality the field is bigger.
WRT firewire, just get a $60 firewire or USB2 case and throw your IDE DVD burner in there. Works great... -
i good firewire case with the latest oxford chip set is ussually about 100$ if you want one with a good power supply and fan ..
some of them can support dual drives and same can not .. its handy when you can swap out the dvd burner for a spare drive(s) sometimes .. -

I don't know what burning software they were using etc.
There may also be different variations of the same brand of media (dye type etc.)
I, and at least one other person here, have been able to burn them.
Your results may vary.
All that being said, I personally would NOT order DVDPro, since meritline or supermediastore (same owners I think) stated that they aren't compatible with the DRU-500A and they are on the bad disc list in the other post that someone created in this forum...
I did originally get some coasters with DVDPro, but that was most likely user error, with the new software, and trying to use Nero, which officially doesn't support it (5.5.9.14)
Some say Princo work with the DRU-500A, but the site I ordered my Prodisc from today, stated that Princo don't work.
They suggested Ritek and Prodisc instead, from their small media selection.
I also burned a Sony DVD+RW and a TDK DVD-R, but those cost more, especially the DVD+RW...
TDK DVD-Rs can be found for $2.35 - $2.50 online, depending on quantity ordered...
