best burn speed

i just got a new LiteOn 48X12X48 CD-RW writer and have some questions.

whats the best burn speed to use when burning/copying VCD movies? i only use generic CDRs here and obviously, burning at 48X is not advisable because these generic CDRs are not that good. it says on the CDR cover that its multi-speed from 1-32X.

pls advise on the best write speed to use. 12X? 16X? 24X? thanks!

Burn speed with newer drives is not really much of an issue. Just burn at whatever speed your burner/media will handle. Only if it gives problems is it really worth reducing burn speed.

Like bugster said you can burn at whatever speed you desire as long as it can play in your dvd player. I have lite-on 32x12x40 and I can burn up to 32x max with playable CD, but normally I'd burn at 16X to be safe that all my VCDs/SVCDs can be played in others.

One comment, thou. some cheap CDR brand can cause problems. Nowadays CDRs are sold at very cheap after rebate so you'd better get something that more reliable like Verbatim (data life plus), FUJI, SONY, etc...

One another thing to be concern, dont burn at max speed, when I say that I mean not to use "max speed" setting. I have done a few CDs (movie and audio) all of them have some problem like pixelation, glitch etc.. I think it is something to so with speed that start at very low speed then increase to max speed available (variable speeds).
