setup: i have a philips dvd724at set on prog.scan connected to a sony kv32hs510 through component cables
problem: when a subtitle track is selected on any dvd, subtitles will stay on until the next subtitle is displayed. in normal conversation this isn't bad, but when there is periods of no dialogue, the last subtitle displayed will just stay on the screen, which is very annoying. any idea why this is happening?
thanks in advance,
scott.

update - i turned off progressive scan on the dvd724at and now subtitles turn off after the character is done speaking like they are supposed to. however, after seeing the quality of progressive scan, going back to interlaced isn't really an option. are there any fixes for this problem? firmware?

Did you find any other solutions to the problem? I have the same player and it has the same problem.

solution: buy another player...
i called phillips tech support and they gave me a line that it is a known "issue" with the 724 line. having just bought the dvd player last christmas, i'm a bit p.o.ed by this little "quirk." especially since i kind of feel ethically inclined to metion this fact to anyone whom i would sell it to (which i'm guessing would probably ruin the sale). thing that gets to me is that i did a lot of research into this player but i never ran across anyone mentioning this issue. i'm not sure about your situation, but i'm looking into adding a receiver/speaker package with my hdtv now, so i guess i should be also looking into packages that include a dvd player too. probably better than buying a new player on its own. -
Rather annoying as I really like it appart from this. Especially as Philips don't seam to want to do anything about it.
Oh well.
