I was wondering if it was possible to utilize the vcd header trick on an svcd image. My dvd player (lg dvd-5253) doesn't support SVCDs and I wouldn't want to extract the mpg from the image and then re-encode it and then make another image because I'm such a noob with this stuff. Thx.

To follow up on epo's rather informative response you don't need to re-encode, however you are going to need to extract the AVSEQ01.MPG file out of the MPEG-2 folder using a tool such as IsoBuster: http://www.smart-projects.net/isobuster/ Then you can run it thru TMPGEnc remuxing it with a VCD header. If you're using Nero to burn remember to turn off compliancy when you go to burn as a VCD.

all you need to do is use isobuster, load the image, extract the mpeg.
after that, uses TMPG, and do the header trick.
then, use vcdeasy to make an image, and then burn with your favorite software.
give it a shot, even a noob should be able to accomplish this.
    if you have problems, ask.
what are you askin' me for...

  6. Can you do the opposite with a vcd. Trick it to play like an svcd??? Some new apex players don't support vcd anymore.

I don't know for sure, but I don't see why not.
of course, since the resolution wouldn't be SVCD standard, I think you would actually have a XSVCD...but it's definitely worth a shot

I ripped the mpg, I re-whatevered it into a videocd with tmpgenc (is it supposed to say something about some buffer underrun when finished and that the file might not view correctly?). Anyway, I'm making a vcd out of it atm with vcdeasy. Thanks for the help guys.

Hehe I got it to work in the DVD player but the playback is like you play a video on a 386... really jerky.
