    Hi,
    I bought a Magnum DVD-2002 dvd player and since this is a privat brand name from a large shop chain, I do not know which dvd player manufacturer has made this Magnum dvd player! Can anyone help me with this? and how I can check the real manufacturer?!
    I need this because I would like to enable the player to support vcd. The player support DVD/CD?CD-R/CD-RW/MP3.
    Thanks in advance.

    Only your dealer brand knows the original hardware, you should ask their customer service. You might be able to find something out by opening up the DVD player and checking for any labels or markings on the motherboard, but you will also void your warranty the instant you do this.

    a. Thanks you for your reply.
    Well I asked the service department but they did not give me the manufacturer`s name. I looked inside the player and I found following information:
    -DVD 220 PSU BD Rev. V703
    -Model Player TVM503R-1
    -Omega DVD STI5519 AVB-ES
    I hope somebody can help me with this information.
    Thanks in advance.

    Why oh why not use Google? .)

    Using the search word "STI5591" brought me to this very nice page, which happens to be ST Microelectronics' press release concerning their new processors for DVD players. At least according to them your player should be fully loaded SVCD-vice et cetera.

    Your DVD player seems to be a "no brand" one, in other words a low-end cheapo player which a dealer chain can spread using it's own name. However, it is still based on the ST Microelectronics Omega DVD Chip. Doing a search with "STI5519 firmware" i found this german page, which states multiple Omega-based players indeed have trouble playing (S)VCDs. This might be a firmware problem, according to the page you should be able to check your firmware using the next key combination:

    Open->stop->menu->7420

    As far as I understood, you might need a firmware update from ST Micro to be able to view VCDs.

    I tried to check the firmware with the key combination but without success.
    So it seems my DVD player is of a different kind.
    Do you know where I can get the update from ST Micro?! Do you think this will enable the VCD function?!
    Thanks in advance.

    I have now managed to set the region code to ALL by pressing the following combination on the remote control:
    Menu
    1
    6
    7
    0=All regions

    But I am not yet able to play the VCD. Does anyone know how to do this based on the hack as above stated?!
    Thanks in advance.

  8. Try this: Put in Audio CD.... let it play, then press Stop.
    A menu will appear....press 1, 5, 9, on the remote and another menu should appear. Press '1' to activate VCD..

    Hope it works

  9. This will allow playback of original vcd's but not copies, it's not firware that stops your player from playing vcd's as it can with a simple remote hack, it's the drive which will not play cdr's

    You might find some info here helpful

  10. I disagree, my friend has a Koss KD260-2 player that would not play burned svcd's. I told him to do the vcd hack and now it will play them. They are not original's, the discs are made with DVD2SVCD, and Nero.
    Maybe its true on some player's but not all.
