I've found Ulead Video Studio quite simple to use, but not lacking cool features. I'm sure there's many more feature filled apps out there, but I kinda like it.

I like Vegas Video 3.0
Seems pretty straight forward with lots of cool features. -
It depends on your computer/configuration. I tried Pinnacle Systems Studio 7.0, with patches, and found it unstable on my AMD system. However, Uleads VideoStudio 6 works just fine.

Premiere 6.5

I though that rule # 1 was:
a) Donot ask for wares.
b) Do give wares or links to wares.
So I did not violate rule a)
and I did satisfy rule b)
Please revise the rule. It is confusing. -
If you are just doing simple avi editing (non-DV) I would just use virtualdub. It's free, its very easy to learn and its pretty powerful.

Premiere is hardly entry level at $600+ dollars. Just to add to the confusion you might try EditStudio from http://www.puremotion.com They have a free, fully working 30 day demo. About 10-15 MB download, plus another few for the PDF guide.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
For me, Pinnacle Studio 8 is the best entry level NLE on the market - Adobe Premier might be a bit too overwhelming if you're new to video editing. If you live in the UK, you can get Studio 8 from amazon.co.uk for around £46.

Someone suggested Vegas Video, which is great, but a good entry-level app from the same company is VideoFactory, which comes with great tutorials, and when you're ready for Vegas, you'll already be familiar with the interface, and the upgrade route is cheaper then a straight purchase of Vegas.
Here's a screenshot of Video Factory's straightforward Windows-like interface:
Hope this helps!
