  1. In the US. Looking for something that plays A LOT of different media and isn't picky about playing user encoded items...ie SVCD's at different bit rates. Don't really care about jpg support although it would be nice. Would like MP3 support with no probs with tags of type 1 or 2. Basically I want the BEST for my money...one with no quirks and is loaded with functions. Am I asking too much?

    Thanks for the input!

No, but you could just tick all the relevant boxes when you do a DVD player search and see which ones are less than $200.

I've got a JVC XV-S300BK. It pretty much does everything you want for $100. But just becuase you think you've found your ideal player, It doesn't mean you'll be able to buy it! Many are now discontinued. Just search the web catalogue of your nearest electrical stores and see if they have anything close to what you need first - if that fails, tryan on-line retailer.

    Happy watching,

  3. I recently bought a Pioneer DV355 (under $200). It plays everything: VBR VCDs, SVCDs, XVCD, XSVCD, MP3, KVCDx1, KVCDx2 and KVCDx3 even with 48kHz audio. Cool! The model number for the US is DV353, but it should still have all the features I hope.

  4. Hello-I bought the Apex 1100W at Wal Mart for $60 to check DVDs burned on my new Sony DRU 500A. If you can get the 1MB model, you're stoked. Where I live, they are long gone. I got an "old" 512kb model, can't disable Macrovision, but plays just about every optical disc I have except .avi files on CD(old WFM analog captures, not DivX). The picture quality looks pretty good to me, audio as good as the system you hook it up to. I guess you could spend more, match the quality of your TV or monitor.
