  2. I am probably the last person who should be helping you cause I'm so new at this myself, but since most people will just direct you to the guides which can be overwhelming to newbies I will share what little I know. Depending on what programs you have what you can afford and so forth you do not need to convert your real media files to avi, but I would suggest doing so because going straight from rm to mpeg will take a long long long time! Trust me I've tried it! It's just a lot faster to go from rm to avi and then to mpeg if you want to make it a vcd later. There is a guide (all the guides are to the left in green) that tells you how to convert from a capture card (which I don't have so I can't help you there) and two other guides. One for Tinra http://www.vcdhelp.com/rmto.htm and one for EOVideo http://www.vcdhelp.com/rmto3.htm . I have tried both methods and have had problems w/ both as I am so new at this I've not worked out the bugs and I don't have much computer knowledge to hellp me along the way. Tinra is the easiest program to use and is free! But has lots of little bugs, but there is a great website w/ support that will help you if you want to try it http://guiguy.wminds.com/forums/viewforum.php?forum=5&0 and it might just be me and my computer so I'd recommend it first. EOVideo has a 30 day trial then you have to pay for it. I bought it cause it seems to have very few bugs so far. The problem w/ it is it's cost and the lack of help w/ it! There is little to no support! Not good for beginers like me and you. Good luck to you whatever you try!

If I said anything wrong I do hope someone w/ more knowledge will correct me!

    Tinra works fine.
1.use tinra. change rm to avi.
2.use Tmpgenc to convert avi to mpg.
this is the only best choice and which is also quick.
For all the problems arising u can get from this forum and follow it.
I used eo video and changed to this form. It works fine.
