  1. Can anyone out there help me? I want to essentially make DVDs out of TV shows I can record from off the Satellite Dish into my computer. I've heard about Canopus ADVC-100. Is this all I would need? Can I set it so it records at certain times of the day? Or what is the best way to get DVD-quality (525 lines) into my computer to transfer to DVD? Thanks for any info.

  2. When I wanna make a high quality DVD from a capture I capture using Huffyuv and then encode it to DVD using TMPGEnc, then burn it to DVD using Nero. Works great for me.
Of course I can Capture straight to a DVD compliant file and then burn it DVD using Nero using MMC7.7

You could use just about any cap/tv tuner card to accomplish that. I think that card has a hardware MPEG encoder so you could capture directly to MPEG-1 (or 2??). I use a hauppauge wintv radio card and I get great results.

You can set virtualdub up to do this. BUT, I don't know if it works with that card.

The concensus is to capture with as low compression as you can and use a software encoder like CCE or TMPGenc. Here's some "required reading" as far as I'm concerned for high quality caps....

  4. Thanks a lot for your responses everyone. Anyone out there know if a program called WIN DRV (or DVR) 2 from Intervideo offers excellent picture/sound quality captures?

  6. I,myself have found WinDVR2 to the best real time mpeg capture program around. (and i have tried every single one) I use it with mt wintv go card and the results are more than adequate. I cannot say the same for powerVCRII though. Even after installing the winxp patch, the quality is too blocky on motion scences for my liking.

    Hi
It's always the same with software.
What works gr8 with one computer doesn't with another.
Im have played with both of them in the past and found with high bitrate custom profiles PowerVCR2 gives better results.
You may find however that WinDVR2 is better for you.
    Try them both.
