  1. Up until yesterday i have been using Tmpenc with no problems to convert my avi files to mpeg for VCD conversion. Now every time I load Tmpeng and browse to a file the program quits and I get the encountered a problem error. I have tried re-installing it after removing all references from the registry and reinstalled the ASPI drivers for XP but nothing will get it to work.

I have redownloaded the program and installed it in case the file had got corrupt somehow but still no difference. The only thing I have done since yesterday is install the SP1 for XP but the problem occurred just before I did that anyway

Anyone any ideas what could have happened to it or any alternative programs I could try in the meantime till I can resolve the problem???

  2. I hate Xp for this fact, i would suggest overwriting your Windows Directory using your Windows XP Cd, (HINT: Make sure you move everything on your desktop to your My Documents folder) when your done reinstalling XP, simply reinstall all of your codecs and such, your programs may need to be reinstalled too, make sure to properly backup your important data before proceeding.
To burn or not to burn, that is the question.

I had the same problem. I was encoding AVI files just fine and then overnight, I started getting error messages.

All I did was install the Nimo Codec pack at http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/main.htmland my problems went away.

Before you reinstall windows, try it.

  5. I have been messing about and it seems both AVI's must have somehow become corrupt as they are crashing every program they come into contact with. I tried playing them in Media Player and they crashed that, just opening the folder they were in crashed Explorer and sending anything to be saved in My Videos (where they were saved) crashed Gozilla.

They were fine yesterday after they were downloaded but something has happened to them in the meantime.

I have managed to get them off the computer eventually and done a virus scan and it came back OK so I am trying to download a different AVI and see if Tmpeng is OK again

    Keep you posted
