  1. I recently downloaded Trainspotting in a DivX file, and it took me ages to convert it, now once i burnt it, it plays the sound in my vcd player, but not the video, and the audio is kind of munted to. Heres the steps i took to get it done:

    1. Downloaded from Kazaa
    2. Sent it through the LAN to the computer with the burner
    3. Opened TMPGE (however you spell it)
    4. Closed bastard annoying wizard thing.
    5. Selected input & output file
    6. Changed output bitrate to 1150kbps
    7. Converted
    8. Split file
    9. Tested both files, both perfect DVD-ish quality, run smoothly, no problems.
    10. Go to NERO, selected file 1.
    11. Nero says: Blah blah blah
    12. I says 'Turn of standard compliance shite', because nero normaly says
that and i click PROCEED and the VCD normally runs.
    13. Burn at 10x
    14. Burn second cd in same way
    15. Take VCDs to VCD player (TAGVision somthing, big bulky thing)
    16. VCD Player plays sound and not movie, and the sound is kind of jerky
    17. Yell 'F######ck'
    18. Go back to computer and oped MPEGAV folder, try video, works FINE.

What is wrong??? Id test it on the DVD player, but my little sister broke it by forcing a crayon into it.?? Is it just my old VCD PLAYER?

  2. lol..
i havent really converted divx to vcd well i think maybe once.. anyways i totally forgot about it but what i can suggest is check all the settings u have in TMPGEnc like the resolution.. standard for vcd are 352x240(NTSC)/352x288(PAL), ur right about the bitrate(1150), u might wanna use toolame as ur audio plug-in that might help although ive never really use it that much and every encoded video that i made turns out just fine..

when u go Environmetal Settings and go VFAPI Plugin TAB u might wanna put Direct Show Multimedia on the highest priority by right clicking on it.. i presume that u have known all of these already but just reminding just in case u might have missed out on something.. aight! Good luck

  3. Actually i dont have a clue what you mean about the last bit, i checked the resolution and stuff and thats ok, im sure it went to NTSC as well. What about Nero complaining about the MPG not being the right type?? Has TMPGE encoded the movie into some strang alien form of MPEG? I mean TMPGE would be a completely useless program if its default wasnt convert to vcd format.

well you could use the wizard thing and select vcd template or not use the wizard thing and also select vcd template first ...

at the monent all you sound like youve done is create a mpeg file (could be either mpeg1 or mpeg2 as you give no details) with a data rate of 1150 ..

by using the tmplate you can be sure of the size and data rate and mux be correct for vcd ..

if your dvd player supports it - you could also convert it to svcd .

  5. Ok, well i really have no idea WHAT it is, the format its in should be whatever the default format is for tmpge. If its MPEG-2 it wouldnt play in WMP would it?? This is why I found Panasonic Encoder much easier, but someone told me it took more time to convert movies.

there is no "default" setting in tmpgenc ..

tmpgenc can do just about any type of mpoeg2 or mpeg1 encoding you can think of but you have to tell it where to start -- hence pick a template first ..

  7. Aha! i have figured something out. Under properties, it says MPEG-1 SYSTEM, not MPEG-1 VCD. Is this the proplem?? is this why nero is being a bastard??

If i want to RE-ENCODE this to MPEG-1 VCD, will it take longer than it did to convert from DIVX to MPEG? Is it better off reencoding the whole movie??

  8. Yes, you got it - you were encoding to a non-compliant VCD stream, hence your VCD player being unhappy. Actually you can just run the resulting video through the MPEG tools (File/MPEG tools) under the Merge/cut section, select the entire movie and the stream type to VCD-MPEG and press run (change the output name). Shudn t take too long.

    Otherwise, for your future rips:

In TMPGEnc, press the load button at the bottom right and make sure to choose the VCD template - NTSC.mcf as encoding template, rather than inputting the details by hand and getting something wrong along the way.

Don t forget in the settings to select the aspect ratio of your output movie. Assuming your movie was in the right aspect ratio, you should select 'Full screen, preserve aspect ratio' - it will encode for you with the right ratio and add black bars if necessary.

    Cheers
