i hv been using tmpgenc and virtualdub for ages now however it just will not deal with xvid files.

does anyone at all know how to convert these movies? i mean like tried and tested?

otherwise i guess we just cant watch these movies...........

    No prob here...
Frameserve with virtualdub 1.4.09 to tmpgenc, after installing the right xvid codec (you have to try plenty of them before you discover the right one...)
Then load your template and hit encode!
Better encode audio seperate to video...

  3. no problem here either.

First cannot load xvid after installed xvid code from nimo code pack, everything runs smoothly.

    SatStorm,
I took some interest in your reply concerning using the right Xvid codec. I've been having a hell of a time lately trying to process these types of files thru TMPGEnc. I keep running into this stupid error message "Write error occurred at address 77F52109 of module 'ntdll.dll' with 00000000". I've tried various different builds from Nic's and Koepi’s download pages and while one will work with one file it won't work with another and so on and so forth. Can you give me a little insight into this problem because my only work-around has been to decompress these files and then re-encode and frankly it's a pain in the butt. I don't recall having a problem when I was using v2.56, but since 2.57 and up (presently using v2.58 ) I've been running into this. I did do a search thru the forum on this and it seems I'm not alone, but no one seems to have an answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated......

  5. thnks for your input everyone but keyfram is right.

i hv the right codec installed and the movie works on my computer when i leave it in avi format.

the problem starts when i try to convert it to an svcd. i get the same errors like u do keyfram.

does anyone know how to convert to svcd when the movie was encoded with xvid?

why is it that everytime we get the hang of decoding one format someone goes on and uses another and we hv to start with this sort of hassle all over again...........first it was avi then ac3/avi and now xvid/avi.........

Tons of probs with TMPGenc 2.58plus and VDub 1.4.10.....

So, I went back to 2.56 plus. Frameserved XviD with virtualdub 1.4.09. No probs that way.

Do a search in the guides in the left of you screen. There all there! (and with pictures)
It is very easy, you load the file to virtualdub and then go to file > start frameserver. You name your file and then you load it with tmpgenc.
Read the guides, it is very easy

    SatStorm,
Thanks for the feedback on my problem. I followed your advice and it's working like a charm. Also the workaround for the frame-serving problem with VDub 1.4.10 listed in the how-to guide works flawlessly. For the life of my I can't figure out why I never thought of it in the first place since I use VirtualDub almost on a daily bases, but I guess sometimes you get to close to the problem and overlook the obvious. Well anyhow thanks again....

  10. what about the sound? i mean i used to have to extract the sound separately and then feed it to tmpg because i split the movies and the sound would not match if i dont extract it twith virtualdub and fee to tmpg separately.

when i frameserve do i hv to extract the sound separately too for tmpg?

It not a "must", but it is better encode audio seperate

I found over the years that when you frameserve from vdub to tmpgenc, you have problems with the audio external encoders of TMPGenc. So, or you disable them (low quality audio that way) or you encode the audio seperate.

Because I am a type of person love practical and fast solutions on my problems, not based on books like many other users prefer to do, I suggest to encode seperate if your source has good audio. And never resample audio thrue frameserving...

  12. hi satstorm..i hv tried your suggestion and indeed i hv managed to encode the first of two cd's from a movie. whilst doing the second i got an error at 64% that could be cos i hd lack of disk space

neverthelless it seems that this solution does not work around all movies....i tried do convert peter pan for my daughter but that still would not work......although i used the frameserver an' all.....any ideas?

  13. Just change the priorities as follows in your TMPGEnc->Options->Environmental Settings->VFAPI plug-in:

    Directshow.....3
    AVI2(OPEN DML).....1
    BMP/PPM.......-2
    DVD2AVI......-2
    TMPGEnc Project.....-2

Rest of them set all on 0

And now you wont even need to frameserve - just load the XviD files into TMPGEnc as you would any standard AVI file and encode as you wish

I don't say that it is impossible to load any avi to tmpgenc direct, but I strongly suggest frameservers! You don't waste time to fault encodes that way, and always prevent probs in general.
    Avi or Mpeg doesn't matter....

@mzn: There are many reasons for this, for example: a broken capture, a CD rip on w2k or wxp (w98se is still the best invorement to rip CD based stuff), a missing codec, missing keyframes or frames....
Most of the times, you have to grabb/rip again to fix the probs...
One solution I can suggest: Try frameserve ONLY the video and rip seperate (with virtualdub) the audio and encode it later. Then, remuxx as SVCD or VCD (depending what you doing) the video and audio file and it might work better.
Many advance users always encode audio and video seperate for various reasons, including probs like those you mention.

  15. hi zerokool...your idea seems to work quite nicely when it comes to the encoding....however when i play back what i encoded, the video seems to stutter.....any idea what could hv caused this?

and alsoin the vfapi plug in of my tmpgenc v2.57 i do not hv a dvd2avi setting.....u said i should set this to -2...but i cant cos i don't hv it?
    Quote Quote
  16. Did you chose the source file template? It will stutter it you tried converting the framerate by loading template with a different framerate to your source file. I got 2.57.41.146 and 2.58.44.152 versions and both have got DVD2AVI Project file Reader 1.76+, it seems a bit strange you haven't got that option but it shouldn't be a problem since it doesn't play any role in converting XviDs.

  17. hi zerokool...u were right!!!!!!! your settings work!!!!!

the reason it stuttered was cos i was trying to watch the converted mpg file with the windows media player. once i burnt it on cd and shoved it into my dvd player it worked perfect!!!

    three cheers for zerokool!!!

i would like to thank everyone who posted some ideas to try out!

zerokool do u know of any filter settings i could use to get an even better picture? i currently use 2-pass vbr at highest quality and i would still like to improve the picture cos sometimes i get like clouds or squares in the picture although the avi quality i hv is very good.

any ideas? and thnks once again

  18. In order to make them better, I would use CCE instead of TMPGEnc. I just finshed encoding Star Wars EP2 that I got in Divx format (xvid). Since my source looked pretty decent on the pc, I used only 2 pass with CCE, but I could have seleted 3, 4, or even 5 pass VBR.

TMPGEnc is an excellent encoder for making VCD's, but I prefer to use CCE if I make a SVCD.
