  1. Hi all

The mpeg files created by my TV capture card have very low audio volume (but it's prefectly okay when I watch the TV programmes "live"). It seems the volume is halved in the resulting mpegs (when compared to watching the programme live) and it happens all the time (not ocassionally). Does anyone know how to solve the problem? Is that the problem caused by the ill configurations of my TV card (eg. the birate, the sample rate and the audio compensation value) OR is it the problem caused by my poor quality sound card?

    Many thanks!!!

  2. I have the same problem when I try to capture into avi or mpeg files. I'm not sure if there is away to fix the problem since I check my settings in windows to make sure the volume level is way up in playback and recording of the audio settings. And I still get low volumes from my recordings. What I would always do when capturing with vdub is capture as avi and just save the audio part of the avi file as wav and normalize it with audiograbber or any audio program, and then encode it to mpeg with tmpeg or any encoding program. But I *think* almost everyone has this problem when capturing with capture card.

  3. Thanks southside97!!!

In your case, is the volume halved in the resulting mpegs?
For me, the volume is too low
And do you think this problem is related to the sound card? Thanks!!!

  4. Yeah the volume is low in the mpeg files. I don't think it's the sound cards since my sound card is a good quality, Sound Blaster Live +MP3, so it can't be the sound card. Maybe something, either the program or window's setting, I'm not sure. I've tried several capturing programs and they produce low audio so I have no clue either as to what is causing the low audio when capturing. I don't get it either since when I watch TV with my tuner card, it plays at full volume but when captured, it captured at low volume, maybe half, maybe low. Maybe someone out there knows....

  5. I had a similar but opposite problem, in my case the volume was too loud. I use ATI AIW128 capture card. In my setup, the audio part is captured through the "Line in" input. From windows recording control interface I experimented with the "Line in" volume until I got the right volume. Its worth a try in case your setup is similar to mine. Remember the playback control is different from the recording control.

    1) Using the window level control icon its important to set the line-in RECORD level and not the PLAY slider. When playing back on the PC the play WAVE slider needs to be high enough in addition to the MAIN.

    2) Many capture apps allow for volume control, especially those requiring "wdm" drivers.

    3) If you process using TMPGenc you can raise the volume during processing although it will probably increase noise also if there is some in your audio.

    4) many standalone DVD players have a volume control or option in the menus check to make sure its properly set.

    In tmpgenc:

Click Setting (On main view panel at lower right near load, save)
    Audio
Make sure the box "Audio Edit" is checked
    Click Setting
Make sure box "Change Volume" is checked
You can then adjust the arrow wheel above 100% (or less if you want to lower)
The normalise can also be adjusted to prevent peaks and lows from 75% to a value up to 100%.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
