If you want smaller output use a lower bitrate. 2-pass VBR tends to give the best quality and a predictable file size, at the expense of very long encoding times.

  3. i used 1600 bit rate in TMPG and my first disc was sopposed to be around 700mb but it turned out to be 900mb?
    what bit rate is good?

If you're using tmgenc's bitrate calculator, don't - I think I've seen other people complain about it. For that matter, if you're using tmpgenc's wizard at all, don't. When I tried messing with the wizard it was actually harder than just manually loading the right template and setting it up by hand.

vcdhelp's bitrate calculator (under tools) has always given me the correct bitrate to use.

  6. You could use DVD2SVCD program, and on the bitrate tab, change it according to the time of your movie and cd size. It will then show you the bitrate value on the far right hand side. So if your movie was 150 minutes long, and you changed the "use 3" to "use 2", then the entire movie will be on 2 cd's with a reduced bitrate.

1600 bitrate? that's pretty low...the quality is gonna go down by alot. how long is the movie you're trying to do? don't try to fit 2+ hrs of movie onto 2 CDs, or it's gonna look like crap

So, what's the best bitrate can be used... what i mean is that using lowest bitrate possible while still maintain good quality.. if we want to do a 130 minutes movie will it still possible to fit it into two disc and still have good quality? or should we use 3 disc instead?

There is no "best" bitrate. Quality is a very subjective thing, what's just fine for one person will look like crap to another. It also depends on the source material, a low-action movie can take a lower bitrate than a movie with constant high-motion scenes before you start to see compression artifacts. I've put around 80 minutes on a CD before without any real problems because there were very few high-action scenes. I've also encoded some things at 45-50min/CD and had noticable artifacting because there was a lot of action.

I'd just try encoding your 130 minutes for two CDs and see if it's good enough for you, after you've done a few you'll start to get a feel for whether or not something will suit your tastes.

My general rule of thumb for svcd's is not to cross the 60 minutes per disc barrier. Excellent results when keeping it 45-50 min per disc. Is quality worth that extra .20 cents a disc? I think so

i guess your oppinion is correct, that's why sometimes i found a bit blur when i use the same method for the high action scenes...
yup, i guess it's better to add one extra disc to get excelent result.
    thanks guys

by the way, i want to use dvd2svcd (because all ppl talkin about it here, that's make me so curious) how i can get CCE and is it possible to download it free i have visited doom9, and they don't provide free CCE, they only have demo version..
