  1. Hi,

I've read several posts and they mostly recommend using VBR, however what settings on VBR is best to use as the min, max and avg.

And if you have a file which will fit onto a single CD at the maximium bitrate 2520 (SVCD) is it better to use CBR.

Also what is the maximium file size for a 99min CD.

    Thanks Mark

PS thanks to thse that have responded to me in the past I didn't post thankyou's as I think they just bump the threads up for no reason. But thanks

I suggest going to the tools section and download the program FITCD.

It will give you the min, max, avg to use when you tell it how long your movie is and what encoder your using and how many discs your using
    very handy.

  3. mjh07153: If you're using VBR the settings for min bitrate should be the lowest possible, usually 300kb/s. The max should be the highest your DVD player can handle or for SVCD compliant about 2520 kb/s. The average bitrate will be determine by the length of your video, but it'll be between the min and max obviously. Like SLBOSS926 suggest FitCD can be used to figure out the average bitrate you want to use.

If you have a file that will fit on one CD with a maximum bitrate then yes you'll probably use a CBR of 2520 kb/s. Althought a VBR encode with 300/2320/2520 kb/s can potentially give you better quality (multipass gives you better motion estimation) it's usually not worth the 4x long encode time and quality difference would be barely noticeable.

use vbr anyway for better quality. i only use cbr for bitrates of 4500 or more and then only on occasion because vbr is still better for motion search.

you get about 10 megabytes of vcd/svcd per min.

    99min x 10 megabytes=990 megabytes

try to make your file 985 max

  5. i used FITCD to get the proper bitrate for my movie, but it still blew out to 944MB even though i used the exact min, avg, max bitrate fitcd gave me!
