5800 hacks no problem if all you want to you is region free and macrovison free, but the 5800 will noy play DVD-R's, but the 5700 did, guess what after you hack the 5800 you then must hack it using the 5700 hacked bio's, still works exactly the same but now you can also play DVD-R's, why daewoo did that, bewilders me, but it works.
FYI, if for some odd ball reason the 5800 ever goes hey wire and I have 3 and 1 has done this and stop playing DVD-R's or SVCD's( did this after a power outage) then you must reinstall the original 5800 bio's and start all over and rehack it again. -
Hack worked fine. But have some performance issues with VCD. It plays fine on Mintek 2800 but on Daewoo it is kind of jerky.

You should not be having any problems with VCD's, any VCD I make from 1150 bitrate to 4000 bitrate plays fine. Did you use the 5800 hack to bypass macro, then the 5700 DVD-R hack so you can play DVD-R's later.
Now once I had one of mine start acting weird on playing SVCD's and I just re-entered the 2 hacks again and its played fine ever since, I have 3 of these DVD players and have not found a VCD yet that would not play on them, have you checked to make sure the surface of the disc is clean, any light smudge or finger prints at all and these will play back jerky, seems the Daewoo's jitter correction is not very good.
