  1. I burned (with Nero) a copy of the VCDHelp SVCD example (NTSC). That played with excellent quality on my APEX AD-1600.

If I burn a SVCD with Nero, it plays.

Anything coming out of Pinnacle Studio 8 does not work.

I have been working with Pinnacle support - but they clearly don't know much about SVCD yet.

Their SVCD's work on some other APEX models.

They contend that their SVCD's are standards compliant.
    - they do not include a SEGMENT or EXT directory.
They will include them in future releases - but they intend to leave the EXT and SEGMENT empty.
They also say that the scandata.dat file is optional because:
"according to the SVCD 1.0 Spec dated May 1999, Page 19: The file "SCANDATA.DAT" is mandatory when the System Profile tag value = $01" in the INFO.SVD file, else the file is optional. The SVCDs Studio 8 creates set the system profile tag value = "$00" which means "SUPERVCD", so the file is optional according the spec."

The VCDHelp.com/svcd page could lead one to believe that EXT/scandata.dat and the SEGMENT folders are required.

I don't yet know if Pinnacle discs pass the Super Video CD verifier. But I intend to check that out - just found reference to the software a few minutes ago, in the forum.

I have asked APEX what is different in the AD-1500 and the AD-1600, they got back to me within an hour, but they told me to get lost.

I'm looking for a few things:
An answer to the SVCD tag question - is scandata.dat required under all circumstances?

    Is the SEGMENT folder required?

What is the AD-1600 looking for that the AD-1500 ignored?

What could I do to get the Pinnacle discs within compliance?

The AD-1600 is brand-new, I'm considering sending it back while I still can, should I?

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

  2. I guess I won't be checking the compatibility of the Pinnacle SVCD with the Philips verifyer - $500?

Input on any aspect of this problem would be appreciated.
