    more help needed guys

    and please dont laugh !!

i am using windcoder and Ulead video studio6 to capture from a VHS tape, which is fine.

    my problem is this

i have a sound blaster Audigy, and i have the two inputs for sound, MIC and LINE IN. both programs ask for the source of the sound, and one of the options they give is Microphone, which is great, i play the tape, and on the preview window, i can hear and see it just fine (this is with the sound going into the LINE IN jack) but when i capture i get no sound. If i put the jack into MIC then i get sound, and can capture with sound, but its way to over amplified, and basically just sounds like loudpeople i can hardly make out, and loads of white noise. I am guessing its amplified at both ends, causing the problem, i have checked on the VCR and there is no way to turn down the sound output...

anyone else had this problem ?? can anyone recommend a program that allows you to choose specifically your own sound source ??

i am banging my head against a brick wall here ...

Can you adjust the microphone's RECORDING volume in the control panel?

It calls for radical surgery, then. Load the video with the load audio into Gold Wave. Select Effects-->Filter-->Noise Reduction. This will lower the volume and clean up any noise. If it is still too high, use Effects-->Volume. Good luck, Doctor Athlon.

  6. @Athlon. You could save yourself the trouble of having to reedit the file. Although I've got a Sound Blaster Live DE5.1, rather than Audigy, if Creative are still bundling the same proggies then try this.
If you've installed the "Creative Sound Recorder" program, open it from the Start/Programs/Creative menu.
Left click the Recorder program & in the menu box select "Settings"
In the grey Settings Box there will belook for the the "monitor" section. Mark the selection...
    "Enable Auto Recording Volume Limiter".
This selection will help reduce instances of noise distortion.
Additionally in your Audio HQ, or whatever Audigy's version of its control Panel is, open up the mixer & check to see if Line-in has been selected.
I've found that sometimes "Auxillary" setting was causing Line-in to be muted,so although I'd hear it wasn't being recorded.
Mute Auxillary & unmute Line-in & see if that works.

  7. Excuse me if the Audigy works in a different way, but for all other SB you can choose the recording source from the mixer.
Open the mixer, menu "Options", "properties", check the recording settings, verify that Line-in is checked and then OK.
You should see the mixer of recording sources, where you have to select the right source (Line-in) and its volume level.
In this way you feed the audio signal from VCR to line-in input, that has the right electrical level to handle it.
I hope i understood your question.

  8. The MIC input IS amplified, while LINE-IN is not. Line-in is definitely preferrable, Riccardom's suggestions are accurate, make sure your cap program is set to use Line-in.
