  1. about the "Source Aspect Ratio" I checked the definitions for it on this website and it says "This sets the source ratio" do I choose one for the way the file WAS or how it is going to BE after I encode it? and how do I know what the source aspect ratio is in the file I want to encode?

This was very confusing for me in the beginning too...

It's logical an dactually not hard to understand. The Source Aspect Ratio is of course the Aspect Ratio of the Source, which mean that it's the format of the Movie you are converting FROM. Different settings here will result in different... well... results

For exampel. You download a small clip distributed on a webpage and you wanna burn it as a VCD, The problem is that the clip is 320x180 pixels and no VCD standards are answering to that format. So, if you in TMPGenc set the source Aspect Ratio to "Center (Costumized)" you can type 320x180 and then burn as vcd... the picture will of course not fill out the whole TV sceen but it'll work. If you wanted the movie to fill out the whole screen (accepting the canged aspect ratio) you could have chosed "Full screen" but then it would'nt be the same proportions.

The best choice ( I think) here would have been the "Full Screen (Keep aspect ratio)". The movie would have been as big as possible as long as the proportions would be original. I use that option to encode Widescreen movies.

The best way to figure this out is to test and test and test. The changes will apear if you Preview in TMPGenc, so you won't need to encode and BURN every signle test.

I hope it helped a little
    Thanx/
    Lars
