  1. this is my first time trying to make a vcd from a dvd rip. i used dvdx to rip the dvd and convert it to mpeg in one step. but the mpeg i made was only 66 megs. lord of the rings is a three hour movie!!! shouldn't the file be larger than that? i checked it and the whole movie is there, aside for some skipping in the sound. does this sound right?

    I would say something is definately wrong! only 66mb thats impossible it should be more like 2gb for a standard format vcd

    I prefer to use seperate tools when copying dvd to (S)VCD.

    it gives you more control over final results.

    I use smartripper --> DVD2AVI ---> Tmpgenc --> NERO

    You can tell where an error occurs when you control each step.

    you might want to try converting with some seperate programs

    Now, that sounds right... I just ripped it to xVCD for 2 CDRs and it came out at 1370 mb or so. Standards going to be like 1800 mb or larger.

  7. Actually, you should be able to fit LOTR onto two CD-R (90 min) as a standard VCD (I was able to).

    Start the second disc at chapter 23 (if I remember correctly) which is where the Council of Elrond scene starts.
