  1. Forgive me if my answer is posted elsewhere, but there's just so much info on this site and I haven't poked in every corner of it yet.

Setup: Windows XP (pre sp1 and I won't install it because it causes my boot time to grow to over 10 miutes), 1Ghz pentium III cpu, ~785mb dimm memory, Radeon 8500 video card (with latest drivers), PowerDVD 4, s-video cable connecting video card to tv, 50x cdrom drive.

Issue: when in full screen and piping the video to the tv, svcd playback of mpg/dat files is chuncky (dropped frames). If I play the movie in a window (~1/2 screen or less) or play the movie full screen without piping the video to the tv, then it's fine.

This has only been a problem since I re-installed my OS. Prior to that my playback was smooth as silk. I can't figure out what's wrong. I'd suspect my hardware wasn't up to the task if I hadn't seen it working prior to the reinstall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. I would guess that it is either a problem with the Radeon 8500 display drivers or with how PowerDVD uses them for playback.

First of all, I would make sure that hardware acceleration is enabled for PowerDVD (look under the video tab of the configuration menu while the player is stopped)

If all else fails, try another program such as WinDVD or Zoom player, if it does the same thing, you will know that the problem lies with the video drivers. try reinstalling the Catalyst 2.3 drivers and make sure that you update the control panel files as well.

Let me know if you need more,

    Prospero

  3. Whoot! Enabling the hadware acceleration did the trick. I must have set that option on my previous intallation and then forgot about it. Thanks for jogging my memory.
