I am wondering why it takes sooo long to convert a avi to vcd after I have run the decopress.exe to uncompress the audio.
In the past I was able to convert an mpeg to vcd format in a very short time with tmpgenc. Today it is taking along time like close to 5 hrs and I have a pretty fast machine with lotsa ram, 512 pc 2700 and a AMD XP1600 (1.43 ghz) running on an Epox board.
The file is 871,016KB pcm.avi. I am guessing this is the prob as in avi format with compressed audio it is only 210,399 KB.
Is there any other program that will convert a pcm.avi file faster??

tmpgenc does not convert avi to a vcd ready mpeg. You have to use avi2vcd then you can burn the mpeg for a vcd
I was just wondering if the conversion process can be shortened. Below is my info after converting a 200 meg file from avi to mpeg format

However....
If you load a PAL/NTSC VCD template, the output mpeg is going to be correct for your DVD player.
If there are no filters used "(smr)red_dragon-ts(1of2)_pcm.avi " at "Duration: 59 minutes, 57 seconds" should not be taking the time you quote.
Its difficult to compare one AVI to the next, most of the AVI's I convert only take about 1.5 hours with most converting in real time or slightly less
If you start changing settings like 2 pass, colour correction etc, and that time can double.
"Frames per second: 4.257167" ??????? what's up ? that is very very slow, does this happen often or is it just this file ?
Most of the programs are about the same as TMPGEnc, some are a little faster at times, but on average about the same.
Example, converting a VOB file in DvdX to mpeg 1 VCD is about the same as it would take TMPGEnc.
There is no big improvements with any of the other programs, sometimes people quote another, only to find the next AVI it converts it takes more time.
I'm not a fan of XP, or AMD but what you quote sounds very slow, and does sound like there is sometime wrong. -
use dvd2svcd with mpeg1 output selected and tmpgenc. as long as you don.t have an invalid framerate, you'll be find with just a few steps on the initial setup-
1- select mpeg1 output
2- adjust the bitrate to compliant vcd standards
3- select a title picture, disk name, etc.
4- " we don't need no water , let that ****** ****** burn"Where I walk, I walk alone. Where I fight, I fight alone. -
On the contratry! TMPGEnc outputs beautifully VCD compliant MPEG streams. And (if you're brave) even more beautiful non compliant streams, that at least my DVD plays with value added experience. av12vcd is simplesimplesimple - Use TMPGEnc!
