When the Movie part of a DVD is less that 4.3GB
using IfoEdit it is really easy to re-author the DVD.
But if there is Space left can I also include one of the Extras?
Like a 4 minute Music Video. (I know what VOB it is)
Do not need Menus, it's OK if that part just plays after the Movie part.

Tony, I posted a question like this earlier and have yet to receive a response. I want A Bug's Life and the Alternate Outtakes. I have used IFOEdit to create a new VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_01_0.IFO for the movie but I don't know how to get the VOB for the outtakes to go with it. I think you are supposed to rename the VOBs for the movie to VTS_01_n.VOB to work with the new IFO files created by IFOEdit. Now I am where you are: how to get that little extra single VOB to work, too.
Scott. -
First Try: FAILED !!!
Ripped the main Movie and the extra VOB.
Renamed the extra VOB so it looks like the
last VOB of the main Movie.
IfoEdit like I regular do and everything looks OK.
Nero Burned it OK.
BUT when Playing back the DVD it jumps to
different parts randomly.
Will try to add the extra VOB to NERO (renamed)
and see what happens. -
I don't think renaming the VOB is the right thing to do. What has worked for me is to NOT create new IFOs, just remove the VOBs that I don't want, then do the IFO fixup (I forgot what it's called) in IFOEdit, then use Nero to burn as a UDF/ISO (NOT DVD-Video). The original menu will work for existing VOBs and not for any removed items.
-
Starting at the other end with all files and start taking
vobs off is a solution.
DVD decrypter: I will choose file mode and select the VOBs I want.
But in IfoEdit,
I know how to strip out the audio/subtitles I
do not need if I only have the main movie
Do I do that for every single VTS_x_0.ifo files?
I should not click on "get VTS sectors" on the
destionation Video_TS after it been stripped?
But do a "IFO fixup" instead?
UDF/ISO in Nero_5599, how do I select that? -
I will give that a try tonight and let you know, tony and mdm.

I don't (or haven't yet) use DVDdecrypter, so I can't help you there. I'm also no expert at IFOedit, but have been successful using it. I'll tell you what I did for my last project and hopefully you'll be able to find something that can help you.
My project was to dupe a DVD9 that included both full and wide screen versions of a movie. If first ripped the whole movie to my HD with Smartripper. Next I opened IFOedit and selected the full screen version (it started in the first VOB) and had IFOedit create a new set of VOBs for just that version in another folder (WITHOUT created new IFOs). I then copied all the "extras" and menus etc. VOBs to my new folder. Next I opened IFOedit in that folder and ran "get VTS sectors" (that's the "fix up" I was talking about). In Nero I hit the new compilation button and select DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) from the list of choices (the last one), create a VIDEO_TS folder, and drop the files from my new folder into it and burn. When I tried burning as a DVD-Video Nero would complain about missing VOBs (which *was* true, originally there were 8 large VOBs and now there are only 4). When I was done I had a complete working copy *minus* the wide screen version (selecting it does nothing).
While working on this, I discovered if I created new IFOs I would lose the menus and links to the extras (this may be fine in some cases, but I wanted them). Before burning I kept testing it in PowerDVD until it looked right.
Hope this helps. -
I ripped the whole DVD, stripped French/2channel audio
& angle2 OUT of the movie.
Moved the other "unchanged" VTS/VOB that would fit to this new directory.
Did the "GET THE VTS SECTORS"
Burned it with NERO as a regular DVD-VIDEO, nero did NOT complain
that 3vobs was missing.
It plays just fine with Menus and all.
But if Nero complains how do I select UDF/ISO instead?
In NERO EXPRESS how do you select UDF/ISO?
With Regular NERO if I select compile a new dvd
and select data DVD I get ISO1_DVD.
Is this Correct?, should I create a folder named VIDEO_TS ? -
hey mdm do i need to create the AUDIO_TS folder too? i use DVD (UDF/ISO) and it doesnt seem to work on my standalone but its fine running on my PC as i explain on the other thread that i made.. can u please clear this up for me.. im pretty desperate i wanted the menu coz it does fit in one DVD-R with them included.. TIA

Use Vobedit (from the IFOEDIT site) to merge vob sets.
You do need both the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders (in caps). Make sure all the files in the folders are capitalized also. -
I must be at a loss. I couldn't make it work they way suggested. If I don't have the IFO files created by IFOEdit, but then I copy the main menu VOB into the new folder, PowerDVD says "Cannot find specified file" when I try to play the video_ts file. If I do create the IFO files and then just copy over the "extras" VOB\IFOs, the movie plays fine, but have no way to get to the next VOB (the extras).
I opened VOBedit, but it didn't seem intuitive to figure out how to merge vobs, nor would I really know what I would be trying to accomplish. (I haven't read any tutorials on it.) Argh.
In my case I have VTS_04_1-4.VOB and all the streams in it. The other VOB I would like is just PGC3 from VTS_06_1.vob but I didn't know how to make IFOEdit get just that PGC. I suppose I could have DVDDecrypter do it.
Still, I can get just the movie backed up fine and playing...adding just one PGC from another VOB to the mix is making this so much more difficult. -
I am pretty new at this, but have done this a few times, movies, original menus, selected a few extras, and stripped unwanted audio streams.
In IFOEdit, it was simple.... (And please don't flame me if you already know all this, but sometimes the simpleton view, my view, is not readily apparent to the well-versed)
I use menu extras to strip FBI warnings, etc. I simply delete the VOB's of the unwanted extras (or stream strip if there are multiples in one VOB set), then press GET VTS Sectors, and voila, it is done! Of course, the buttons for the extras are still there, and you can remove extra menus if you like, but in my experience, when you try to select an extra that doesn't exist, it just plays the main movie.
Imgtool to create an image, DVDDecryptor to burn the image, and make the popcorn.
Has worked MULTIPLE times for me when I don't have to resample (rempeg2) the main video stream. In fact, I just did this this morning.
Good luck! -
marscable:
As far as I know, you do not need the AUDIO_TS file unless there is/was something in there on the original DVD, and as EnemyWithin mentioned, they need to be in caps.
sbueffel:
As Scoobydeux mentioned, you have to do a "get VTS sectors" to straighten things out after you have everything you want. -
I failed to mention that I did do a Get VTS Vectors. I have never done a Menu Extras selection so I have never thought to try it. I will give that a try a little later this morning. Thanks.

But if Nero complains how do I select UDF/ISO instead?
In NERO EXPRESS how do you select UDF/ISO?
With Regular NERO if I select compile a new dvd

Download the latest nero 5.5.9.14 that at least let
me go on if it finds errors due to missing vobs. (DVD_VIDEO) -
Enemy, thanks for the link to Derrow's tutorial. I used SmartRipper to extract just PGC3 from VOB6-1. So now I have VOB1-1to4 and VOB6-1. I rename VOB6-1 to VOB1-5. Open VOBEdit, open VOB1-1, select Join clips, pick the destination directory (one level deeper), select to use VOB ID 1, click OK...nothing. Tried variations of renaming the existing files so as to save the results in the same directory. Nope. Huh?
-
Did you rename vts_01_1.vob to vts_01_001.vob (and same with 2, 3, etc)? Then name vts_06_1.vob to vts_01_005.vob. Then Open vts_01_001.vob in VobEdit and Edit-> Join Clips.

Tonyp12:
In standard Nero, in the New Compilation dialog box, DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) is at the bottom of the list on the left side. -
Technically, no. I renamed vob6-1 to vob1-5 and that was it, but giving the destination directory a different location so as not to conflict. Then I tried by adding an "a" to the beginning: avts_01_n.vob. The same thing, after clicking OK on the starting VOB ID, nothing happens. I will rename according to the guide and try again, following it to the letter. Scott.
-
Well, I just started it...and it is chugging along. Perhaps the filenames literally do have to be VTS_0n_00n.vob. I did that, left the destination directory the same, and it is going now.
Since I already had IFOEdit create IFO files, do I need to recreate them since the new clip has been merged? I don't want to lose my chapter info in the main movie IFO.

Sorry about that, I never use the wizard so I forgot to make that clear. -
I hope I am not coming across as too much of in idiot (at least in this case). If I don't recreate the IFO files (because I did when I rebuilt the movie) the movie plays fine, but I cannot access the extras either through chapter stops or fast forwarding. After the movie is over..it stops. If I rebuild the IFOs, get VTS vectors and play, all the chapters are messed up and I still can't access the extras. Am I just missing something totally obvious?
-
Like I said before, I'm no expert at IFOedit, but in my *limited* experience, NOT recreating the IFOs allowed them to retain the info on the extras and chapters and doing a "get VTS sectors" allowed them to "find" the extras and chapters again in order to play correctly.
I could be completely (or partially) wrong here, but it seems to have worked for me. -
Okay I did it all again. Rejoined, and recreated IFOs with no IFOs present in the directory this time (this wasn't the case last time). Works fine. The extras play right after the end credits.
I am curious now. I thought chapter info was only stored in the IFOs and thats how your player knew what LBA and\or timecode and\or I-frame to jump to. In this case, I recreated the IFOs, so no chapter info to work with. But when all was said and done, I had chapters and more of them. The original movie had 38 chapters. The extras, just 1. Now being done I have 54. Hmm..38+1 is not 54. But chapters still line up for credits, opening scenes, etc. If that is true how is this possible since the end credits are now at 50 instead of 37, but everything else still lines up?
