strange thing........my dvd player decides which media to pl

Hi,

I own a dvd marantz dv-4100 and the strange thing is if i burn a dvd-5 to a dvd-r then my dvd player will play it.

If i rip a dvd-9 and put it in a dvd-r it WON'T play it, but my pioneer 747 will (and my girlfriends sony 400d).

Strange.....it can recognise dvd-r's!!!!! but it can choose which to play???????
