    Hi.
I searched a lot for this but i can't find an answer, I'm sorry if it was already posted...

So, I'm using a sony handycam dcr-sx30, this camera records in MPG file format (i believe it's mpeg2 but the file extension is only mpg). When i play my video using VLC player. It plays the video at (maybe) 20 or 25 frames per second. But VLC as some deinterlace options, one of them is called "linear" when i choose that option the picture gets much better but the video looks like to have maybe 60 frames per second! VLC also has an option to play videos in slow motion, if i play my video slower without the linear deinterlace, it get's really bad as it was supposed to happen... (the video is playing at 10 or 15 frames per second) but if i turn on the linear deinterlace it plays very smooth even slowly (it's like you recorded a video with a super fast camera so you can play it slowly with decent frames per second)

Now, i need to convert that videos to avi, but without loosing thoose strange frames that only appear on some situations (like playing the video with linear deinterlace in vlc), i don't care if the final avi file as 60 frames per second... but i need to convert the video without loosing frames, (because i need to edit them for various purposes... for example, creating slow motion sequences, and other things that just need to be done with most frames per second as possible... )

I hope you get what i mean, i'm very desperate trying to find a solution for this

    Thanks in advance!

All the deinterlace modes play the same rate for me. I suspect there is a problem between VLC and the video renderer. Try changing the output device in VLC's setup. Tools -> Preferences -> Video -> Output.

What you're looking for is a Bob deinterlacer. These range from dumb Bobs (like VirtualDub's Bob Doubler with simple Bob) to very smart motion predicting Bobs like AviSynth's TempGaussMC_beta1(). I'd start with VirtualDub's Bob Doubler in Adaptive ELA mode.

I didn't noticed but the "BOB" deinterlacing in vlc does the same as linear (or at least it looks like the same) It plays the video with an higher frame-rate. I've googled for "Bob" deinterlacing and i learned a lot about interlaced videos, and how to deinterlace it to get 50 frames per second (if it's a PAL 25 fps video) I've also downloaded a recent version of virtualdub (the old version i was using didn't have that "bob" deinterlacing, the newest one have it) I can finally convert my camera videos to 50 frames per second videos.

Thanks a lot for the help! ;P
