  1. Hello,

I've got this Sony DAV-s400 surround set and I would like to know how to get it regionfree.
I'm in Europe by the way.
What I also would like to know is once my DVD player is regionfree, does it also play SVCD then?

    Thanks in advance!

From them there is no DIY kit, but for £82+vat they'll pick it up, mod it, and send it back... expensive though :/

You might wanna browse round the net to see if you can get it done cheaper, but then I guess you have done that already...

If it doesn't play SVCD's to begin then it wont play them afterwards, which that model doesn't.

  3. thnx for your reply.

Indeed way too expensive for me to send my DVD player to them.

Too bad it won't play SVCD's afterwards, since the regioncode for China can play SVCD's...

If you ever find the region hack, just let me know.

  4. Sony DVD players need to be modded so that they can be regionfree, macrovioson off, etc...
Still, if you're trying to play SVCDs, my Sony DAV-S500 plays MPEG-2
x(S)VCDs with the VCD header trick. No selectable subtitles, etc, but MPEG-2 nonetheless.

  5. loumarx,

how did you manage to convert a SVCD header into VCD?
I've tried to do that using TMPGEnc (MPEG-tools, simple multiplex) but it didn't work.
