  2. I am currently ripping a movie with dvdx 2.0 and so far the qualtiy looks excellent. I have heard that smart ripper is the best for ripping the vob files, then you have to encode it to mpeg format and burn it. With dvdx it does everything by itself and you end up with your mpeg file ready to burn. After I burn it, I'll let ya know how it turned out. I will probably try the smartripper next just to compare the quality. :P

  3. I actually have found DVDx 1.6 to be the most stable version, I like it a lot anyway. SmartRipper is the best thing for ripping VOB files to your hard drive, just make sure to copy the IFO as well. I have an installer available for free that includes SmartRipper, DVDx, VirtualDub and VCDEasy in one file. It's about 12MB and will go into it's own dir. You can find it at

or download the same files individually from

    http://www.doom9.org

that site ROCKS.......as much as this one for sure

dvd2svcd all the way. amazing quality, uses great software, and best of all, does it all for you! you can get it at dvd2svcd.doom9.net

for the encoding process you'll need either tmpgenc (free) or cinema craft encoder (not free but can be found). give it a try!
