  1. Hi,
Has anyone managed to get DVD+Rs to work with the Sony DAV-S500? I'm trying to buy a DVD burner but not sure which type to go for. I think the S500 plays DVD-Rs but dont know about +Rs. Is there any benefit in getting +Rs rather than -RS ???
    Thanks for your help.

  2. I would advise DVD-R as it seems to work with most sony DVD players, as for DVD+R, If you buy a DVD+R writer make sure that the Drive you intend to play the disks in excepts DVD+R, if you are not sure go for the safe bet DVD-R. If possible ask around to see if anyone you know has a DVD+R writer to make a disk for you, if not go to a company who put videos onto DVD and ask them to put a short bit of vhs video onto DVD. Many firms can put the video onto DVD-R or DVD+R, if the video is short,e.g 2-3 min then it will not cost much, e.g. at some places less than $20. Trust my spending $20 so see if DVD+R works is well worth the effort as all DVD writers are expensive at the moment. Sorry I cant be specific towards your player but I have to say from past experience always test something before you buy - you could end up saving a lot of money. I have on old Sony DVP-S535 and it reads DVD-R with out a problem - you can work out if your player is a newer model in which case DVD-R probabley will work too.

  3. I just bought the Sony DAV-S500 and an HP DVD200i burner.
Using the DVD200i means, that I use DVD+R. It works

I have problems playing DVD+RW, it's jerkily, that means approx every 12 seconds it stopps playing. But sometimes there is no problem at all ?!?

I was told by Sony-people that it wouldn't work at all, neither -R nor +R. Therefore I decided to buy the HP and to try it out.
Ask the sales people to return the burner if it wouldn't work.
