I use Gordian Knot for most of my DVD -> DivX, and I always select Divx 5 pro (which I have) etc, and do the usual. Gordon Knot brings up VirtualDub to do the encoding... I was looking at the job control window, and it said it was using DivX 4. In the compressions options of virtualDub divX 5.02 is listed, and i select it. Looking at some of the recent DVD's I ripped under file properties when I open them in VirtualDub - it says they are Divx 4
So may questions is ... Is their a way for me to have Gordian Knot select Divx 5 when it calls Vdub - or have virtualdub use only Divx 5?
One thought was to remove the divx 4 codecs ... - How would I do that? (if that would work)
OR - Alternately - is their another program that I could use to encode with DivX 5 that is relatively easy to use. (I can figure out bit rates and resolution ok usually)
I hope someone can help. Thanks.

I haven't tried flask. I may do that ...
i think One problem I have is with some misconfiguration of my graphics card. It is causing my computer to crash while encoding sometimes.
It is a Raedon 8500 DV AIW - on XP pro ... -
i am also looking for how to remove divx 4. but remember next time not to select divx 4 in the gknot set up.
-
if you install divx5 it should overwrite v4 if you want to get rid of it altogrther then use the search facility in windows to locate the codec then manually delete it
-
found out how to remove codecs under xp
control panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->"hardware" tab.
there you will see both the video and audio codecs -
I used DivX 5 for several months by selecting DivX 4 option in Gordian Knot. It worked perfectly. However, I used GK to produce the avs file, and then encoded directly using Virtualdub, where DivX 5 was the selected codec. If you upgrade to the most recent version of Gordian Knot you will see it now has the DivX 3 and DivX5 as options. However, both old and new versions of GK work perfectly well with DivX 5.
I see mention of using Flask. I haven't used this personally, but so many reports of sync problems make me reluctant ever to use the program. -
