  1. I recently captured a quick 1min 30sec clip from my camcorder using my Cybermail capture card and Vdub. The file size is just huge for such a short clip. It's around 200 megs. I was wondering if there was a way that I could reduce the file size to something more manageable for email or posting on the web?

  2. You have to reencode it using another compression type. If you got it from your camera it's probably DV -- try reencoding in MPEG4, DIVX, or MPEG. Use VirtualDub -- it's free...

  3. I did use Virtual Dub when originally capturing it. I chose capture avi from the menu and proceeded to capture it. It's actually only 13 seconds long and it's 213mb. Is that right? If I choose Mpeg4, aren't there a bunch of different codecs for it? If so, which one do I choose? Any other suggestions as far as compression goes?

  4. I forgot to add that I didn't capture from a digital camcorder. It's a vhs-c camcorder.

  5. I think I figured it out...I didn't choose the right type of compression. Silly me. I'll try it again.

  6. Another idea might be to try encoding it to asf, microsofts format designed for web streaming, it about thirds the size of mpeg files!
