I have an 8x dvd rom. And i'm trying to rip it to ISO. well Its only going 1x instead of 8x or close to it. Does anybody know what the problem might be?

Try installing some ASPI drivers and it should go quicker

XP is slower at ripping but you should be getting at least 3-4x average
things to check
- Is DMA mode enabled for your DVD ?
(right click mycomputer, click on device manager, double click on
IDE controller, double click on secondary IDE controller
- Do you have a PCI latency setting in your BIOS? Is it single or
double figures? It should be 10 (at most) 0 works for some.
- Is their a firmware update for your DVD rom drive?
- Is there an EIDE driver patch to enable bus mastering for
your mainboard ?
