  1. I upgraded my Pioneer DVR-104's firmware yesterday as posted here. It was v1.30 and the FW upgrade changed it to version v1.32.

I put in a DVD-R (data) today to check for a mp3 file (it is a backup DVD-R). The name of the disk would show up in Windows Explorer, but it would not allow me to view the files. I right clicked on the drive letter for the DVR-104 and it showed "4.3GB used" on the disk, so it acted like it recognized the data.

So then I tried a burned DVD-RW video I had done. Again, it read the title..eg. DVD_4_Jason , but would not allow me to see the data.

I am burning a test file now, and the burning part does not seem to be affected (Whew!).

Has anyone else experienced this problem? My drive is the Pioneer DVR-104 purchased from Esbuy.com.

  2. Ok, something weird is going on now. I rebooted WinXP Pro twice, and the DVD movie works, but the DVD-R data will not. Strange. I called Pioneer Tech support as listed on their firmware update page, and was forwarded twice, finally to the "engineers who wrote the program". They had voice mail, so I left a message. I'll keep everyone posted on what they say.

  3. Ok guys and gals, sorry for 3 posts, but I think I found the solution. When I performed the firmware upgrade, somehow it disabled the "Enable CD Recording on this drive" from Windows Explorer. I fixed it by right clicking on the drive letter, selecting Properties, then choose the "Recording" tab, then enable it.

Man, I hope this doesn't happen to everyone with this drive, b/c Pioneer is gonna have a headache with all the phone calls!

EDIT: A Pioneer rep. just called me and took note of the problem and solution. He returned my call within 2 hours, and seemed concerned about my problem (and thanked me for explaining the solution). Hooray for Pioneer! I'm a VERY satisfied customer!
