  1. I am currently using a Hitatchi 8x DVD player on my pc. It plays DVD's well , but hangs up or freezes when playing my svcd's. Those same svcd's play beautifully at any speed when played back on my stand alone $95.00 Magnavox DVD/SVCD player. I just bought a new video card the ATI 8500 Radeon, so I know my problem is not my video card. Also I'm using WinDVD 4 to play back my svcd's. Basically I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what a good DVD player for my PC is that will play SVCD's well? ( A hardware dvd-rom drive that plays svcd's well not a software recommendation) Any and all Recommendations will greatly be apprecaited. Thanks WILL

  2. There's no such thing as a hardware svcd drive. If your DVD-ROM can read the info on the SVCD disc then the problem is with the software player Win DVD. Maybe you should try a different player like Power DVD.

If you still think your DVD-ROM is the problem do this. Put your SVCD into the DVD-ROM. In Windows Explorer copy the entire content of the CD to your hard drive. If it copys without any problem then it's not the fault of the DVD-ROM.

  3. DVD drive not likely to be the problem. Try different player software, STHSDVD works well, also try to play from CD drive if available.

Do not assume that just because your Video Card is new, it could not be the source of the problem.

Also, use the ATI File Player to play the DAT file on the SVCD, this will indicate whether the drive is OK.

  4. if you have an ATI Radeon and a VIA chipset (quite likely) then Vlatency may well fix your problem.
