In the process of assembling a new (budget) system.
Will probably end up with a ABIT KR7A system(USB 1.1 & no firewire) with an Athlon xp 1600.
I want to transfer all my vhs cassettes to CD. Just basic transfer; no fancy editing is planned. My question is should I get a budget AGP video card (I'm not a gamer) and go with a canopus/Dazzle product to convert the analog or should I just put the money into a really good video card. Any recs are greatly appreciated. Thanks

It really depends on what kind of jack you have to spend. I had about $80 so I bought a WinTV radio card.

well the canopus ADVC 50/100/1394 go around $250 or so. If I went that route I could get a $40-$50 video card. So I guess $300 for either a video card or a card and a canopus product.
The good video card option may be cheaper, but I'm willing to put out a little extra if it means quality captures and an easier effort. -
if you play games -- go with the better video card ... if you do much of most of anything else -- go for the video capture cards
