  1. I have The Count Of Monte Cristo (whole dvd about 8GB). The actual movie is about 6GB. I want to take the actual movie and downsample it so it's about 3GB and maybe remove some extras or just downsample them. Anyway, my question is... I know all about ReMPEG and that takes me a good 20+ hours for encoding/decoding (whatever it does). I was wondering if I could use a bitrate calc then DVD2AVi then TMPGenc DVD template? Then create the files back to VOB and just inserting them into the orignal DVD structure. I want to do this to keep the orignal menu. So bacially I want do what ReMPEG does but I don't want to use ReMPEG... Get it?? If anyone has any info please reply!! Thanks!!

  2. heres what i suggest...USE CCE it will save u lots of time!!!!
go to dooms site and check out the encoding guide "getting the best out of CCE"

it looks pretty complicated but since your new to CCE follow the instructions up to the point where u set the GOP , leave the rest out up to the pulldown part if u have ntsc video
but remeber to change your settings to a 2 pass vbr and just set your avg and max bitrates

after u have encoded u need to load your m2v and audio streams into an authoring program which will author them into a title set (vobs) for u with ifo files.

i recommend u use spruce up which is REALLY EASY

theres plenty of guides around vcdhelp/doom9.org/ and DERROW's site on how to encode and create a dvd-r i suggest u read them.

u mentioned rempeg and how long it takes.....it does take long but its really simple to use!!!! and u can also remux the streams with ifoedit and u dont need an authoring program.

if u dont get CCE just stick to rempeg until u get a hang on other things
