  1. I'm hoping someone can help me out here...I've switched from using Pinnacle Studio 7 to VirtualDub for capturing stuff from my Hi8 camcorder to my laptop (with Dazzle VC80) and I've noticed that the resulting .AVI file looks much better...problem is, I don't seem to be capturing audio. Hope someone out there can help me out...thanks!

  2. well starting with some basics since you didn't give any details.

Do you have sound from camcorder being input into the sound card?

If so have you got the correct input selected from the sound settings in the computer?
Not only am I perfect but I'm Canadian too!

  3. ROBO1964,

I'm using the Dazzle DV80 (USB) hooked up between my Hi8 Camcorder and laptop...this setup works when I'm using Pinnacle Studio 7 to capture (both audio and video show up), however, when I use VirtualDub, I'm not able to capture audio. Not sure if I have the settings right for VirtualDub...

  4. Hey all...I was hoping someone would have some pointers for me or least head me in some kind of direction...I am stupified as to why VirtualDub is not capturing the audio...I have the same hardware setup but when using Pinnacle Studio 7, I have no problems capturing audio. Please help! Someone! Anyone!

  6. I learned this from Liquid on IRC channel:

    Click Start
    Run
    type: sndvol32 -r

now select Line In if that is where the in volume is coming from you want to record.

I had this problem as well, drove me crazy till someone helped me too.

  7. Elway, thanks for the reply...I've already tried this and have it set, but still no audio...my question is, if the same setup works for Pinnacle Studio 7, shouldn't it also work for VirtualDub? This probably means that I do not have VDub setup correctly...*sigh!*...doubt if I'll ever get this to work right!

not sure on the configuration of your dazzle device, but instead of running the audio into it, run it into the "line input" of your sound card. Then select it as the recording device (as others have mentioned)

  9. liquid217,

from your post, I guess I now understand what others have mentioned regarding running audio into the "line input" of my sound card...problem is (trying not to sound too stupid here!) is that I have a HP Pavilion laptop and don't think I have any line inputs to my sound card!

However, I just tried using iuVCR for capturing and everything seems to be going fine so far! Am able to capture both video and audio without a hitch...only thing so far, is that the captured .AVI file is HUGE!! Of course, all done without compression...oh well, at least I'm able to get it to work

  10. Let me know about that software. How big are your files? Maybe i'll test it out and try to use it as well!

  11. Elway,

iuVCR works pretty well with the setup I have (DVC80, P3 850Mhz, 256RAM)...

...I'm quite a newbie at this too, but let me know if you need anymore help with what you're doing and I'll try to give my $0.02 worth!
