    The .mpg file that ffmpeg produces won't play properly on VLC or QT6. It starts to then the video hangs up and the audio keeps on going.

    It should play fine right ?

    Check if you are using GOP=12. Otherwise try the "split in 1 chunks" option which will doctor the stream and can give a better result in some cases.
