  1. hi all, i have a problem and im hoping you guys can help.

when i go to capture with a program such as virtualdub all i get is a blue screen and some screeching.
i can capture fine using the software for my card but only in an uncompressed avi...a bit to big , thats why i want to use another program to allow me to compress the video in real time. ive read and searched through alot of stuff but couldnt find anything that help.

my tuner card is avermedia tv98, i run winxp, have a via kt266 chipset mb with ac97 sound and ive upgraded my drivers recently.

so, anybody have any ideas on how to get the tv video to appear properly in video software?

I get a blue screen because of the signal that my VCR puts out (in Vdub). What you seem to be missing is codecs my friend. I'm not familiar with your card in particular, but if you load in Huffy, or Pic Video(mjpeg), or even Divx, you should have those options available on your video card, or at least in Vdub, under the capture>custom format option. The different codecs can be loaded in your system by searching on the left hand side. Stick with Huffy for now. Huffy is free, and is the best to use, next to capturing raw video. If you're pressed for space I suggest Pic Video.

    Good luck!!!!!

  4. no, its that the software for my tv card doesnt have any options for selecting codecs, i have the options in virtual dub or other software but those other programs cant get the tv channels to display properly

  5. i`ve never worked with vdub bort, but i take it that you`ve checked to make sure your "video source" settings are correct. example: tv tuner, s video, composite etc.... if you capturing from a camcorde (not digital) or a vcr; then you want to use composite setting. it sounds to me that your software setting is on s video. hope that helps.

  6. I've selected the source as the tv tuner through the programs ive tried, all the ones mentioned on this site and a couple others, but theyre all the same...if i try to do a channel scan/setup it goes through various frequencies and it stays a blue screen (with a static line across it) and varying pitch of the screeching
