  1. Here is the situation.

I can play a DVD (in my dvd rom drive) in windows media player, (in xp), but I get no sound!!!

(yes, audio cd's have sound, but the dvd sound does not come from that cable, right?).

    Any ideas?

DELL p3, 600mhz, win xp, 384mb ram, XP home, a few codes installed.

I tried power dvd, but I think it did not work either....

    ideas?

  3. check the volume control for the wav sound output as it maybe set to nothing... yes I know U may have tried this but its always nice for someone to suggest such a little thing as volume control.

    Kev!

ps try reinstalling your soundcard driver this may also be a hassle

  4. Ok, I do have the divx codec (4.12 I think).

Also, I have checked the volume....but thanks for pointing out the obvious, that is it a lot of the time...

(all my other videos play with sound, just not the ones from the DVD drive using media player).

I installed the mpg2 codec off the of the tools section, and I get video, but not audio.

I have DVDx installed, version 2.0, when I do the play from there (direct from the dvd) I get sound...

    any ideas?
