Hi Hope someone can help me with this one.
I've captured some home made movies to my PC, Originally recorded on a Sony Digital 8 Handycam. This Handycam doesn't have firewire so the capture was done by playing the video through a capture card (Leadtek DTV100T) and using Ulead Videostudio 9 SE saving them to hard drive.
I've then transferred a captured test file to DVD using the tools in the Ulead program under the create disc menu.
The burn completed successfully and the converted file plays perfectly on my PC using a variety of programs inc Win Media but when loaded into a Sony DVD player there is no sound. I've used DVD-R and +R discs and searched various forums for an answer but am stuck.
I also used Nero Vision 4 essentils to convert the file to DVD but this yielded the same results.
Help much appreciated.

I'm not too familiar with Ulead products, but when you use the "create disc" option, does this author DVD files (i.e. VIDEO_TS folder)?
Does your DVD player have problems with any other discs (retail or burnt)? -
What format has your soundfile?
Sometimes these programs produce mp2, which a few DVD players ignore.
(even if this shouldn´t be an issue with PAL, but I´ve saw a few players which...)
Best way is to use AC3. Just my opinion. -
VS9 SE might not have AC3 audio (check if your version has that audio compression mode).
As asked already -- are you Authoring a DVD, or just creating a video file and burning it to disc?
What model Sony Digital-8 camcorder are you using -- I thought all their Digital-8's had firewire ports? Are you sure it's a Digital-8 (and not 8mm)?

The setup is very similar to my brothers system
The camera has no firewire port , but capture is done over usb instead as he has no capture card
Ulead video studio 9 se dose not support ac3 , only mp2
Yes, there are not just a few, but many players that have issues with mp2 audio
----
You have the basics but need to change the audio to ac3
Im pretty sure ulead video studio 9 se can, after you have completed any further editing, save out both audio and video as seperate streams
Then you can use a lot of different tools from this point with those 2 streams
Besweet to convert the mp2 to ac3
Dvdauthorgui covers the rest

And welcome to the forum -
Thank you to everyone who replied. I very much appreciate the quick and informative responses.
Embaressingly though, I have to advise that the scart lead was loose on my DVD player and thus sound was copied to the DVD media and plays Ok after I sorted the loose lead out.
It just shows you, always check the obvious first.
Thanks again -
Great you checked the "error-chain"
Many people just stuck in searching everywhere while the solution is so near (applies to the whole life)
Congratulations !
