  1. Hi,

I have some trouble to cut parts of a mpeg2 stream at exact positions with TMPGenc. I want to cut precisly at a scene change, I can go back and forth with the arrows of my keyboard, but it's not always going one frame backwards or forwards. Sometimes I have to go 4 frames forth to see a new frame. Forwards is going better as backwards. If I use DVD2AVI I can browse through the frames one by one, back and forth without trouble.

If I cut a VCD with TMPGenc I can browse through the frames back/forth witout trouble. So I think it's the Ligos MPEG2 codec, which I installed. I installed WinDVD and I tried to install a new MPEG2 codec, but MediaPlayer keeps using the Ligos codec.

How can I find out on which frame numbers I have to cut (DVD2AVI doesn't show the framenumbers)?
Or how can I install a new codec, which replaces the Ligos codec (part of the Ligos MPEG suite 2.0)? I'm using Windows2000.

    Thanks for any advice/help.

    Peter.

  2. You might want to try Ulead visual studio 5.0. I have used this program to do what you want to do.

  3. I now can cut MPEG2 with TMPGenc, but it's not frame accurate
I think it goes back to the first I-frame from the first frame you set and it also takes a few frames more after the last frame you set, maybe also the next I-frame.

How can you cut frame accurate?

    TIA

TMPGEnc gets funky when cutting MPEG-2/SVCD files.
    Here's what I know...

When you try to cut a 23.976fps (FILM type) MPEG-2/SVCD, it cuts the video and leaves about the last minute of video without any sound.

When you try to cut a MPEG-2/SVCD that was encoded using Variable Bitrate, it doesn't necessary cut the right spot you originally set it at, usually a few seconds before what you asked for...

I personally use bbMPEG to cut MPEG-2/SVCD files. It handles 23.976fps ones fine, but still gets a bit funky with VBR ones...
